Join us as we go through a short prayer in this intermediate lesson. The lesson teaches classical Arabic, which is what is used for prayers and supplications in Arabic. There are lots of new words to get your head around, some of which are quite challenging. Nonetheless some words should prove to be useful and are good to learn at this stage to add to your ever extending list of vocabulary.

Thanks for the refreshing lesson. For those of us who are learning Arabic to better know our deen, this is extremely helpful. I hope that we will be seeing more of these types of lessons in the future ان شاء اللة.
Just one thing, can you please elaborate on why the verbs are in past tense? Such as استطعت or صنعت, while they have a present/future tense meaning?

The verb in past tense because of the context, you ask for forgiveness about things that already happened.
Now in the sentence (و أنا على عهدك و وعدك ما استطعت) the general meaning is future, because here we promise about things in the future, that's why the English translation for the sentence came in future pattern.
About صنعت, it will be complex if we have translated it in past tense because it will seem that the person did particular thing and he is asking for forgiveness because of it, while the Arabic part shows the person is asking for forgiveness for everything he/she does, this is because of ما that came before صنعت.
So, in translation, we always do our best to give the meaning that would fulfil the requirements of each language which is always a debatable matter.
شكراً و بارك الله فيكي مرة أخرى
سلام
