very interesting lesson - should be fun to travel through arab countries (when the dust has settled) - hey lads you could organize this as a kind of "travelling" language course -

On another point - Watching one of the "Law and Order" programs last night, I remembered the variations in the intro music over the years for the spinoffs. The intro music all has/had a common theme, but the pace and other elements varied. Like, for the "Special Victims Unit" the pace was considerably faster.
Taking a page from that playbook, perhaps the intro/ending music for the higher level lessons could be quickened or shortened? I think we all love the basic sounds.

Love the enhanced effort on bringing the lower intermediates up to intermediate speed. Can see it in the interjectory explanatory translations of the grammatical wording.

Thank you very much for moderating the intermediate level a bit : ) There just seemed to be a huge gulf between lower int. and intermediate, but this lesson hit the spot!

@durruti -- I've also noticed, seemingly, an increase in interjectory English explanations for the advanced lessons (like the recent one on Apple). Given that they have associated .pdf translations, these are quite beneficial to us as well. We do not need to understand everything.

for I thought the plural of بلد is بِلاد
or is this only spoken Plural?

In Arabic, sometimes, different meanings of the same word can have different plural forms. For example,

أمر - amr - matter, affair, order, command - has two plurals –
أمور – umoor - matters, affairs
أوامر – awaamir – orders, commands

Similarly, بلد – balad - has many meanings - country, town, city, land, place – and has two plurals – بلاد - bilaad – and بلدان – buldaan

Of these, بلدان – specifically means countries.

Though بلاد is the plural of other meanings of balad, it is often used to refer to a single country, especially as an إضافة. I guess, in such cases, it should mean lands or places.

بلاد الهند – India; بلاد الصين – China; بلاد فارس – Persia; بلاد القاع – Holland

بلاد العرب is Arabian peninsula and البلدان العربية is Arabic countries.

It is interesting to note that balad can be masculine or feminine.

بَلَدانِ – baladaani – two countries – dual – can be confused with buldaan, if without vowel markers!

يا شباب، هذا درس كان مناسب جداً لحيتي... في الشهر الماضي أنا قمت بجولا الجمهورية اليمنية ... والآن أنا على رحلة إلى البيتي (أسترح في فندق في دبي). اليمن بلد فكير جداً ولكن أيضاً جميل جداً. رغم الفقراء الناس في اليمن لطيفة وكرامة جداً، وكل الناس كان يريد أن يتكلم معي، ويريدوني إلتق صورة فوتوغرافية منهم أو معاً. فقط المشكلة الكبير في اليمن الفقراء، بسبب القائدة والمشاكل سياسية بين الشعب والرائس "القديم" علي عبد الصالح.
هناك في مدينة صنعاء أعشت في المعهد اسمه:
"YIAL"
بالإنجليزية:
Yemen Institute for Arabic Language.
حياة في اليمن جيد لطالب اللغة العربية، لأن في اليمن كثير من الناس لا يتكلم بالإنجليزية على اطلاق، وأيضاً في المعهد يوجد فرصات كثير لتحدث مع اشخاص أخر من في الغرفة الجلوس في المعهد.
كان اليمن أفضل الآن من قبل سنة عندما كان الكهرباء منتفية للوقط طويل. والآن يوجد كهرباء كل اليوم (بعض الأحيان القائدة يطلق السلك الكهرباء في المحطة الطاقة في المارب ولاكن في المعهد كان كهرباء الإتفاية في الشكل باتريات سيارات ومحرك لتحمل الكهرباء يدوياً...
مشكلة أخر في اليمن هي الماء. ليس فيه كثير من الماء، ولذلك يجب أن تشتري الماء من المحل البقالة (أو مثلة في المعهد، كان يشتري الحارس كل يومين سطل كبير من الماء).

الآن أنا في جنة (دبي) مقاراً الصناعء، ولكن دبي مختلق جداً عن اليمن... يوجد هنا أيضاً فرصات لتحدث بالعربية، لاكن مش موجود النفس الثكافة العربية مثلة في اليمن... هنا أكثر الثكافة الأمريكي، بسبب المحلات والفنادق.

Well, just wanted to impress you all with my newly improved Arabic, thanks to my 1 month of Arabic lessons in Sana'a, Yemen. I hope you got the main meaning of what I wrote, although, I'm sure there are plenty of grammatical mistakes...

@Jenkki, very well done mate. Yes, there were some mistakes but I understood everything and found it quite interesting. I can sense that your Arabic is much better. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to Yemen and now you're in Dubai جنة lol.

Let me just highlight a good point about إلى, yes the words that come after are usually defined, but if you add the possessive pronouns like ي in بيتي, then you would just say إلى بيتي and not إلى البيتي because you already defined it with the pronoun.

لا لن أزور اتلانتس لأنه غالي جداً ولكن هناك العديد من الأماكن الأخرى التي ممكن أزورها. وأتمنى أن أراك في المستقبل القريب يمكن في لندن
